I have noticed that as I get older, life does not get easier, in fact I find myself experiencing more confusion than when I was young. My vision of how to proceed, how to determine the best path to walk becomes more complicated and it makes the goal of being content more difficult to reach. The question, I have to ask myself, is how can I clear up my vision so I can see the way through all the confusion? Turning to the book of Proverbs chapter 20 verse 24, I find; “Man’s steps are ordained by the Lord, How then can man understand his way?” That tells me that when my vision is cloudy, then I must not be following the path that the Lord wants me to walk. The reason is simple, as a human, I have a very limited field of vision. In fact, I often have “tunnel vision” where I see things through a narrow lens. I also have a tendency to see things through “rose colored glasses” where I see only what I want to see. The problem with both is when there are multiple things occurring at the same time, it becomes difficult to discern which path is the correct path to travel. I have to ask myself, is there a way, to find the right path?
Yes, in order to figure out the way out of our confusion, my first step is prayer. I ask the Father to send down the Holy Spirit to light the way. In the Gospel of John, chapter 16 verse 13 Jesus gave this assurance to the disciples. “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” This is not to say that he will provide tonight’s winning lottery numbers, (that I know because so far he never has). It does mean that he will help clear up the cloud of confusion that I am experiencing. I will be able to see more clearly my path, in other words, my vision will clear.
The next time you find yourself in the midst of a confusing situation and you just cannot figure a way out try this. Slow down, take a deep breath, ponder whether you are using tunnel vision, or if rose colored glasses have distorted your vision. Question whether you are walking the path you are supposed to walk or are you ignoring that voice in the back of your mind, the one that tries to steer you in a different direction. Say a quick prayer, “Dear Lord Jesus, please send the Holy Spirit into my life to help me clear up my vision, and see the path I am supposed to walk. Amen.”
Remember, God loves you and wants you to have clear vision so you can be the best version of you He created. God bless and peace y’all
