Deliverance From Our Struggles
Many times we face difficulties in our lives and we pray for deliverance. Sometimes people feel almost guilty about praying for deliverance. There’s no reason to feel guilty, while we are not promised deliverance from our troubles, we do often find solace in the words of our prayers.
In the Old Testament, in Psalm 43, we find a perfect example of a prayer for deliverance.
“Vindicate me, O God, and plead my case against an ungodly nation; O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! For You are the God of my strength; why have You rejected me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God. Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.”
Notice how the prayer while asking for deliverance against enemies is very specific. Asking for wisdom, a guiding light and in return promising to sing God’s praises. Now this is not a negotiation prayer, that is, an either/or, it is a prayer saying how much it means to the person if they should receive deliverance from their troubles. And yet, in the end, they ask themselves why am I in despair, my hope is in my God. With His help I shall be delivered. We all need to believe and maintain our hope and positive attitude.
