Don’t Be Afraid To Be Vulnerable

Don't be afraid to show your vulnerable sideIt is ok to show that you can be vulnerable. Now I’m not talking about going out into the wilderness and opening yourself up to attack by a grizzly bear or anything like that. I’m talking about how it’s ok for us to show others that we care and that we care and that we are open. Often we are afraid that by showing our vulnerable side we will be perceived as being weak, in reality though it takes a great deal of strength and courage to show that we can be vulnerable.

How can I show my vulnerable side? Jesus instructs us in Luke chapter 6. To show our vulnerable side, we must first practice the teachings of Jesus that we find in verses 27-29 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either. “ By taking the high road, by giving love to those who hate, shows our vulnerable side.

Then when we are open, we are able to follow the words in verses 30-36, “Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. Treat others the same way you want them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” That’s the true secret of being vulnerable, do what Jesus teaches, he showed He could be vulnerable and nobody ever said he was weak or a coward. After all He gave His life for all of us. Stay humble, stay vulnerable.
