I have been under some major stress lately and found myself wondering about how on earth I would find any comfort in what was taking place. I often ask myself, is God going to help me? Oh, I know as a minister I am supposed to believe. There are times when I begin to ask questions; especially when I find myself in times of trouble. Once I recognize what I am feeling I do turn to the bible, and the last time I turned to 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2 verses 16-17. “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.” That prayer from Paul to the church in Thessalonica is as applicable to day as it was 2,000 years ago. The phrase “eternal comfort” means His love and support for us is everlasting. “Good hope by grace” as a believer I have to understand that as long as there is a breath in my body there is hope in my life. “Comfort and strengthen your hearts” to me this is one of the key points not only does He provide me a safe place, He gives us the strength to endure and to overcome the obstacles that have us unhappy and stressed. Okay, I understand how God comforts me and how I tap into His power, but how can I use that to help others?
Perhaps the absolute best way to comfort others is by trying to be understanding and to try and emulate the example of Jesus. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians chapter 1 verses 3-4. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” Remember, when we need comfort, if we turn to God then He will help us by comforting us. Once we acknowledge that we have suffered and received comfort, then having the ability to take what God has given us and give it to others is a true blessing. It is important that we give thanks to the Lord for everything He has given us. I understand how tough it can be to be grateful when we are facing troubles, I have been facing various issues for the past 20 years, and each time when I reach the depths of despair, I turn to Jesus and ask for help. He gives me the comfort I need, and I can feel His presence and His love. We all can feel it, if we just try. So, say a quick prayer, “Dear Lord Jesus, please send the Holy Spirit into my life to bring me comfort and let me be of comfort to those who need it. Amen.”
Until next time, remember, God loves you and He will comfort you so you can be the best version of you He created. God bless and peace y’all
