Here in Texas we have a saying, that sometimes we feel like we’ve been rode hard and put away wet. For those who don’t understand that just means things have been tough, we’ve worked hard, and we haven’t been given a chance to slow down and recover. We’re tired, like a race horse, we’ve been rode hard and we’re sweating and wore out. We’re just plain tired.
Today I often hear from folks who feel like that, they feel like the whole world is against them, that they’re never going to catch a break. After this pandemic, many folks have lost their jobs, been shut in and just feel like there’s no way out of the problems they face and they’re just flat out tired.
So what can we do, when as Christians we feel like we’ve been rode hard? I also go back to the words written in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Think about it for a second, Jesus has offered us a place to come and rest, must like a quiet spot under a tree with a great view of a beautiful valley below. Someplace where we have no worries, we can relax and clear our minds and refresh our souls. Jesus offers us a chance to slow down, we can stop being so defensive about our faith about every single thing we see as a slight against us. We can smile, not be so angry all the time, quit playing politics and start being Christians with all the glory that brings us.
Personally I’d rather be known for having helped one person get into heaven rather that 10 politicians getting elected into office. Let’s focus on the end game and not this middle stuff where we just get rode hard with no satisfaction in sight. At some point we all will cross the ultimate finish line and I’m willing to wager, God is not going to ask who you voted for, He is going to ask, who you helped, who you told about His son, who you reached out to. When that is your focus, at the end of each day, you will no long feel like you’ve been rode hard and put away wet.
God bless y’all
