Tragedy Part 2 – Our Foundation

Make sure your foundation of faith is as solid as a mountainIn my previous message about tragedy, I discussed what causes tragedies. In this message I was to talk about how we should handle tragedy and if possible avoid it. The easiest answer is to make certain we build our foundation on solid ground both physically and spiritually. In book of Proverbs, in chapter 10, verse 25, we read, ‘“When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.” In this verse, the teacher is talking about the whirlwind of life and how without a strong foundation of faith, those who are non-believers will perish. That’s just a fact, while it does seem like the evil people in the world always profit at the expense of the good, they never last. Against all odds, Christianity whose foundation is the strength of God’s word has survived over 2,000 years.

We must remember what Jesus told His disciples in Matthew chapter 7 verses 26-27. “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” I live in an area in Central Texas called the Highland Lakes. We have 5 major lakes and 4 major rivers, three of which flow into the fourth. We had a massive rainstorm a few months ago and the rivers all exceeded their flood stage. The results were devastating, homes on the banks of several of the lakes and rivers, who did not have a strong foundation and were washed away. Others did have strong foundations and survived. We Christians need to make certain that the foundation of our faith is on solid ground; otherwise, we are likely to fall for anything that comes along. Jesus gives us the answer as to how we can make sure our foundation is strong, we must hear His words and then DO them. Not hear them and ignore them because it might be inconvenient. Include God in our daily plans. In our day-to-day lives, make sure we act like a Christian. If we do we have a much better chance of withstanding the flood of negativity, anger, and outright prejudice that occurs on a daily basis against Christians. If we ask God to send down the Holy Spirit to help insure that our foundation is solid, He will. If we ask Jesus to walk with us daily, He will. If we ask, He will answer. Until next time, stay in prayer, stay faithful to His words, make the foundation strong as a rock. God Bless and Peace y’all
